Which tow truck do I need? A vehicle compatibility guide.

Match your vehicle — car, EV, pickup, RV, semi, trailer, or heavy equipment — to the right Titan service. Every row includes the equipment we send, our coverage radius, and how pricing works so there are no surprises.

Quick answer

What vehicles can Titan tow — cars, semis, RVs, EVs, buses?

Titan tows every road-legal class: passenger cars, SUVs, pickups (including AWD/4x4 and EVs on flatbed), Class 3–7 medium trucks, Class-8 tractors, loaded and empty trailers, Class-A RVs, transit and coach buses, dump trucks, and construction equipment. Match your vehicle to the right service tier in the tables below, then call (816) 888-8732.

Light-duty vs heavy-duty vs roadside vs mobile repair

The fastest way to pick a service is by vehicle class and whether it can safely move. Here's what each Titan crew is equipped for.

Semi & trailer: symptom → right service

Most Class 8 breakdowns are cheaper and faster to fix roadside than to tow. Use this table before you call your dispatcher — it usually decides mobile repair vs wrecker on the spot.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need a flatbed or a wheel-lift?
Flatbed is required for AWD, 4x4, EV, luxury, lowered, or disabled (won't roll) vehicles. Wheel-lift is fine for standard 2WD cars and light trucks with an intact drivetrain. When in doubt, call — we default to flatbed for anything AWD or EV to protect the drivetrain.
What size vehicle needs a heavy-duty wrecker instead of a light-duty tow?
Anything over ~10,000 lbs GVW: semi tractors, loaded trailers, box trucks (Class 5+), buses, motorhomes, loaded dually pickups, and construction equipment. Rental trucks (U-Haul, Penske, Ryder) once loaded almost always cross into heavy-duty territory.
Can you tow an EV like a Tesla or Rivian?
Yes — flatbed only. EVs must never be wheel-lifted, dolly-towed, or towed with any wheels on the ground. The motors back-feed and can damage inverters and battery packs. We follow the manufacturer's flatbed-only requirement on every EV tow.
Do I need a tow or just roadside service?
If the vehicle can safely move under its own power once we fix the immediate issue (jump-start, tire change, fuel delivery, lockout), roadside is faster and cheaper. If it can't move safely — transmission, brakes, engine, accident damage — you need a tow.
My semi is broken down but drivable. Tow or mobile repair?
Mobile repair almost always beats a tow on time and cost. Air leaks, glad hands, chambers, slack adjusters, lights, ABS faults, 7-way pigtails — all standard on-scene work. We only tow when the repair can't be safely completed roadside.
What's the biggest vehicle you can tow?
Any legal Class 8 semi and trailer combination up to 80,000 lbs GVW. For complex recoveries (uprighting, over-the-road recoveries, heavy off-road) we bring additional wreckers, dollies, and air-cushion gear with the initial unit.
Do you tow motorcycles?
Yes. Flatbed with soft ties through the frame or handlebar clamps — never through triple-tree caps. We carry a wheel chock for motorcycles and powersports.
What's your coverage area for each service?
Light-duty flatbed towing runs a 25-mile radius from Liberty, MO. Heavy-duty towing, roadside assistance, and mobile semi/trailer repair all run a 50-mile radius covering Kansas City metro, both sides of the state line, and the I-35 / I-70 / I-29 / I-435 corridors. Outside the radius, call (816) 888-8732 — we can quote long-haul jobs case by case.
